Anaheim will be fine with KRod closing games for them. He had one of the best K/innings pitched among relievers.

Looking at Koskies stats, i wouldn't want him back in a Twins uniform. He struck out over 100 times in less than 120 games. He did have 25 HRs, but still, his patience at the plate is atrocious.

I'm not sure what to think of Podsednik. His first year was outstanding, but last year he couldn't hit worth a lick. His speed numbers are fantastic, but it remains to be seen which Scott will show up next year. He is going to be 29 when the season starts, so it is hard to gauge if he'll be that late bloomer Dave Roberts-type guy.

I'd still go after Huff from Tampon Bay...

BTW- Cleveland traded Matt Lawton to Pittsburg for (get this) Arthur Rhodes. Jesus, and i thought the Indians were supposed to contend next year. They do have some good outfielders, but Lawton (along with Crisp) were pretty much all they had, if i am not mistaken.

Also, Jaret Wright failed his physical for the Yanks. *insert "ha-ha" here*

The Aaaahj- 12-11-2004
I think the Indians are working on trading/signing themselves right out of contention. Apparently, there looking at signing Estaban Loaiza.

Not to sure about Podesnik, but he might be the best of what's left for the price. Huff would be acceptable also, I was hoping for more of a power hitter, espceically since you've already got 2 decent platoon RF's.

You want Andruw Jones? How about Smoltz? Fuck, i never thought i'd say it, but those two guys take up SO much of the Braves payroll that it will leave them short (again) in getting trades/free agents handled.

Could the Giants trade any large salary in order to make a run at Beltran? Who, besides Bonds, are taking up too much of the payroll that could be traded?

The Aaaahj- 12-11-2004
Marquis Grissom! Too old to play center not sure of the salary but I'm sure it's high. Other than that were not about to part with Jason Schmidt or J.T. Snow. Maybe A.J., but then again they'd need to get a catcher.

As far as your offer, not thanks you keep your old players we're fine with ours.

P.S. Does anyone know where I can get a Voodoo doll of that traitor Jeff Kent!

Malmstorm!- 12-11-2004
Well, 27 isn't exactly old, so i'll disregard that. Still, Andruw isn't worth $13 million/year. I'd rather spend that money (+ a few million more) on Beltran.

You can get that Voodoo doll at the same place i got my Tom Glavine one. It seems to have worked, as he blows against the Braves.

The Aaaahj- 12-11-2004
I was more refering to Smotlz but I don't think the Giant's need anyone who can't properly spell Andrew wink.gif, and I don't think he's worth that much. Beltran will be worth every penny to whoever gets him.

Thanks for the tip, if Kent suffers a injury early in the season you'll know who's responsible.

Malmstorm!- 12-11-2004
Oh he will suffer an injury. Remember, he assisted in smashing my Braves hopes this past season. I'll have one of those dolls too.

Malmstorm!- 12-11-2004
Interesting. Braves traded Jose Capellan to Milwaukee for Dan Kolb. So, Smoltz goes back to the rotation.

Braves gave up on Capellan WAY too quickly. He has a 100mph fastball, but is still working on his mechanics. IE he has no movement on the fastball. Wild...i don't know what to say about this...

The Aaaahj- 12-12-2004
Yeah, that's an odd move, but I guess they really wanted a closer.

In similar news the Giants might have to give up Merkin Valdez to get a good outfielder. Not to sure if that's a wise decision either. He's going to be a solid pitcher in a year or two.

Malmstorm!- 12-12-2004
I like Valdez a lot more than Capellan. At least he has the potential to crack the rotation THIS year. I hope you don't have to get rid of him. Especially for Podsednik, if that is the case.

Kolb just doesn't seem like the proto-typical closer. Has good velocity, but isn't a strikeout pitcher. He has a wicked cut fastball and slider that induces tons of ground balls, so i guess that is a plus. I am just perplexed that there is a "PTBNL" in the deal. WTF? Capellan isn't enough for Kolb?

The more i think about it, the more scared i get for the upcoming season. I understand Smoltz' arm might be better on a strict schedule of only pitching once every five days, instead of 1-2 innings every night. Still, you almost HAVE to place your bets as to when his arm falls off. June? In time for the trade deadline at least?

Toronto will not try for Corey because the Twins offered him arbitration.

You were saying?

What, are they trying for him now? I don't know. I don't read MLB.com all the time b/c I got what I was looking for: B-Rad signing. Plus AJ always fills me in on all the good Twinkies info.

I still think Smoltz is going to suck as a starter.

And anyone who tries to acquire Loaiza is done retarded. Everyone tees off on him... except the Twins in the playoffs.

Malmstorm!- 12-13-2004
Jays signed Koskie, pending physical. 3 year deal.

I don't know that Smoltz will totally suck, but that is more likely than anything. If anything, they'll find out in spring training how his offseason conditioning program went and go from there. If he has a few bad starts in ST, i think they'll rethink their rotation.

It does take a full 18 months to recover from Tommy John surgury, so he is obviously past that. 7 innings in one appearance per week is probably more easier on his arm than 7 innings in 5 appearances per week. Common knowledge. I still don't discount the fact that he IS almost 40 years old and IF he gets out of spring training, i have a hard time believing that his arm won't fall off by July. I like to agree with how a pitcher feels about their own arm, but i'll let Smoltz prove that he can start the entire season. If not, it is Paul Byrd to the rescue.

And what is up with the AL Central? Aren't the White Sox AND Indians trying to get worse? Carlos Lee seemed to be their best player not named Konerko. But now Lee is a Brewer...go figure. AL Central is being handed to the Twins.

I fear Joe Mays will never be the same.

Trading El Caballo to the glue factory of Milwaukee was interesting. I guess they just don't care anymore and are committing seppuku.

Malmstorm!- 12-13-2004
How in the hell do you get rid of Mays? Any idea what kind of contract he has? I fear he'll become the 2003 version of Mike Maroth.
