Wow. Tony Pena resigned. Who can blame him though? That ship just keeps sinking deeper each day.

NaughtySailor- 05-12-2005
That just shows what a good man Alan Trammel is for staying with the Tigers.

The Aaaahj- 05-13-2005
Alan Trammell doesn't know how to do anything other that be a Tiger. He's been one almost my entire life and has been a Tiger since before The Naughty Sailor was born.

Malmstorm!- 05-13-2005
I can see why Alan stays with Detroit, even with their 0-162 season in 2003. They have a young pitching staff with potential (and happen to play in a pitchers park) and have a good offense. Not a great offense, but i think things will click with this team. Most of their pitchers are barely 24. That's the difference with them and the Royals. KC has a few decent pitchers and a awful offense. Things are NEVER gonna happen with them unless they avoid bonehead signings like Jose Lima and re-signing Brian Anderson. They have a closer who has a history of blister problems and a one year wonder (MacDougal) coming back from injury. They are rushing their prospects because they have no choice. Sad state of affairs in KC. They were just inches from contention...

The Aaaahj- 05-14-2005
Well Detroit made at least 1 bonehead signing, Maglio Ordonez, but other than that there is a lot of potential there. It looks like there willing to spend some money so they might be able to keep their young talent. Which bring us to KC not only the bonehead signing, but letting there young talent go cause there to stingy. There is no light on the horizon in KC. Why would anyone in their right mind want to manage there?

QUOTE (Malmstorm! @ May 5 2005, 09:28 PM)
I agree with you on the language barrier, but still feel that people aren't taking responsibility. Sure, you can't learn english in 3 days, but ballplayers have enough $$ to hire a translator, lawyers and tudors. Ichiro can't speak a spit of english, but he carries 2-3 translators minimum.

Does Ichirio pay for his translators?
When Gladden played baseball in Japan, the team hired a translator for him (and one for each of the other players, because it's shameful to share your translator in Japan, and you must commit seppuku if you are caught using the translator of another).
Teams pay for a lot of shit. Shit that baseball players who are making a "ton" of money should be able to afford, but the teams pay ANYWAY.

Malmstorm!- 05-16-2005
From what i understand, and this was in the book The Meaning Of Ichiro, was that Ichiro has had a translator since he began negotiations with MLB teams. I'd imagine that he paid for that, since the Blue Waves sure weren't gonna HELP him get to the MLB. I know not who pays them now though.

Regardless of whether or not the team pays for the services, the option is out there. I can't believe that Rincon would opt NOT to get a translator if his only option was if the Twins paid for it. And for the first time in my life, i agree with Jose Guillen: "players should know what they put into their body, regardless of whether or not they speak Spanish, Russian, English or Japanese."

Sounds like a no-brainer to me.

Malmstorm!- 07-09-2005
I'm surprised anyone in Iowa knows what baseball or football is!

Big Unit- 07-13-2005
there's days I wish they didn't. So many fucking retarded Viqueens fans and Browncows fans it's not even funny.

of course, you guys dont have much to talk about. you dont have a real football team either! hahaha

The only baseball fans I know are either Baaahston, Yankmee's or Cubs fans. I personally wont watch it, unless it's live, and even then I gotta be pretty damn bored to agree to go.

hell, I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that the lockout / standoff in Hockey gets resolved before season opener this year!
