SENTENCED Announce Plans To Split - Feb. 4, 2005

Guitarist Sami Lopakka of the Finnish metallers SENTENCED has posted the following message on the group's official web site:

"We'd better put this out in the open before you hear it somewhere else.

"The title of the new album is 'The Funeral Album', and with it we, SENTENCED, are coming to the end of our road. This album will be our last one.

"The decision is mutual, thoroughly thought over and final.

"Metaphorically speaking, this is a mass suicide of five, and the new album is the kind of note we want to leave behind. One last time around for good-byes.

"The decision was made during 2004. The reasons are many, and I don't feel any need to go into details here. I will say however, that everyone will walk away as friends. In my eyes we are even not splitting up, but ending our recording career together. And there is major difference between those two. Our wish was always to go out with style and at the peak of our so called success. I think with 'The Funeral Album' we will do exactly that.

"Once the album is released, there will be an undefined number of farewell shows. When, where and how many, those are questions that at this point remain open. Intense and long touring, however, will unfortunately not follow, and most of these shows will take place on festivals where we can reach as much people as possible at one time. At the moment it seems that all of these funeral shows will be in Europe.

"If everything goes as planned, we will also make a live DVD out of those last shows and include a lot of stuff from the past on it. Not to mention all the music videos we have done during the years. The working title for the DVD is 'Buried Alive'.

"After that SENTENCED is no more.

"And: THIS IS IT. There will not be a reunion, comeback, or any other pathetic and soap-opera-ish circus that seems to be in fashion these days. SENTENCED will rest in peace.

"We will make the most out of the band's last year, and hope you will all join us.

"See you on the last run."

So Lance is the person who liked SENTENCED then...I was trying to figure out who it was.

Meh...no big loss to me.

Malmstorm!- 02-04-2005
I like Sentenced. It took me a GOOD while to get into them, but Lance and Whitmer are the ones to thank for that.

Wow, dude you came to the wrong place to talk shit about Sentenced. I believe the majority of the board members are Sentenced fan.

'Tis a sad day indeed. At least we still have Poisonblack.

NaughtySailor- 02-04-2005
I see all the old sad bastards are... well, sad.

hater, keep in mind. SENTENCED are in the top 3 influences on COLD COLOURS. and i never got to see them live. good bands leave - and yet, MORTICIAN is still alive and well. something is really wrong in this world!

furious george- 02-05-2005
sentenced? an influence? i don't know man.

i still think those guys are gonna hear us one day and demand royalties for last regret, in your arms, the chorus of faded, and possibly waiting.

at least we get one more sentenced record.

by the way, while did taneli jarva have to make his band suck. their first two records were awesome, and quite similar to old sentenced. now they just...suck

I'm a little mad at myself for not seizing the 2 opportunities I had to see them. NJ Fest (I would have started murdering if I was there when they got cut to a 4 song/20 minute set as HEADLINER, though) and the lil' 2 week package tour they did a few years back for Crimson that came to Milwaukee.

Agreed, Glen. At least we get one more for the road. Also agree with you, AJ - I'm still looking forward to more Poisonblack.

There's only a couple bands I can think of that I really get truly excited over when a new record's released, and they were at the top of the list. Ever since Frozen, I've been buying them the day they came out. I got the Down album pretty soon after it was relelased as well, if I remember correctly.

Drat. This sucks, man. As cliche as this sounds, they really meant a lot to me. Sad to see them go.

Sentenced = Nu Metal

WHOOOAAAAAHHHH there AJ…I didn’t talk shit about SENTENCED. All I said was, “No big loss for me”. I just don’t care for them is all. It’s not like I hate them, but I could think of about 50 other bands I’d rather be listening to.

Yea, I know that CC is influenced by SENTENCED…but I don’t hear their influence on you guys as strongly as Gwen does.

It’s all good. Gotta defend myself after all…

flyingvien- 02-07-2005
You said "after all..."

Heheh.

Big Unit- 02-08-2005
Again, I make an ass out of myself and show my Iowaness by uttering the words - "Who the fuck are Sentenced, Poisonblack, Mortician, and all the other previously mentioned bands in this thread?" I need schooling! as Veeen would say, "Help a cracker out!"

flyingvien- 02-08-2005
Sentenced: Finnish GODS. They write songs about depression, alcoholism, suicides, and funerals. Real upbeat stuff.

Poisonblack: Another Finnish band, comprised of members in similar bands. Ville, Sentenced's singer, plays guitar. They're a little mellower than Sentenced, but very similar.

Mortician: Horrible. Avoid with all your might.

The Aaaahj- 02-08-2005
Ville also sings in Posionblack now.

furious george- 02-08-2005
alright, jaxson, you got it.

i officially volunteer to be president of the "make cds for jaxson, so that he can like all the bands that we like" committee

plus it gives me a chance to sneak som Thin Lizzy in there. biggrin.gif
