a sad day for brian

over the last week I was in Pittsburgh for my girlfriends sister's wedding (8/24-8/29) so I was off the internet for a week. when I got home I was reading blabbermouth as I occasionally do. I came across an article talking about voivod's music being broadcasted on sianet and though, ok that's cool. only to read earlier posts that one of my hero's - piggy from VOIVOD had passed away.

I had no idea he was ill as they announced he was really sick and 3 days later announced he died all while I was out of town.

like most people in my age group I first heard voivod via their amazing cover of "astronomy domine" by pink floyd on headbangers ball in the late 80's. I had heard OF them before before, but not heard them. From there I purchased “nothingface.” After I purchased the “thrash and speed metal” hard n’ heavy video and heard what was to become one of my all time fave songs “tribal convictions.” So I rushed out and purchased the AMAZING “dimension hatross” record; which remains one of my all time fave records.

From day 1, my mission in COLD COLOURS was to make unique music, a lot of people say their band is “unique” but I know mine is! Read any review about us and you will see that! The reason for that is 2 people: robert fripp and Denis d’amour (piggy.) I cried. I wept like a little girl as I read the articles on his demise. I had numerous friends feel this way when dimebag and chuck from DEATH died. Now I feel what they felt. I can only be grateful that I had a chance to see my hero 2 years ago when voivod played at the quest with sepultura – and I spent the whole show right in front of piggy.

I am sad. I lost my icon. And with my other hero Steve Blaze from LILLIAN AXE being from New Orleans, with all the hurricane damage.... To quote a stupid song: this is “the day the music died.” I feel for my brothers, my inspiration. Words cannot express how much Denis changed my outlook on music as a whole. I just got the news, I didn’t know you, but I miss you!

R.I.P. Denis “piggy” Amour.

Death is dumb. The loss of heroes sure hurts, doesn't it?

Btw, it wasn't broadcast into space by Sianet - it was Sirius.

(now we're even on the mistakes! biggrin.gif )
